destination workshop: portugal

exploring portugal

february 22-March 2, 2018

Portugal is special - a small country with a long history, perched on the farthest western reaches of the European continent. Lisbon, Portugal's capitol, is a small city of great charm, colorful neighborhoods and fascinating monuments. Beyond Lisbon lies a historic coast with picturesque villages, ancient palaces, and more.

We will explore Lisbon and its varied neighborhoods and surroundings, and then venture farther north to discover Oporto and the Douro valley.   There will be plenty to see and photograph including a variety of landscapes and cityscapes, castles, charming towns and historic monuments, local events and fado performances.

Highlights will include (but not be limited to):

Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point on the continent of Europe

Obidos - and other charming and characteristic villages near Lisbon

Sintra -  with its colorful palaces and long history

Oporto - Portugal's second city, and a historic gem in its own right

Aveiro - the "Venice of Portugal",  with its fishing boats and canals

Coimbra - the medieval university city

Braga - the oldest city in Portugal, often called 'the Portuguese Rome'

The workshop is open to all levels. Non photographers are also welcome.
