Destination Workshop:  alsace Christmas Markets

Dec 6 - 11, 2019

Alsace is a photographer's delight at any time of year - bright-colored half-timbered houses,  picturesque wine villages set below the slopes of the Vosges, a soaring Gothic cathedral of pink stone in Strasbourg.  But Alsace at Christmas is magical - villages decked out for the season, cozy winstubs and the lights and colors of Christmas markets set up from one end of the region to the other.

Strasbourg’s Christmas Market is the oldest in Europe, dating back to 1570.   The main market stretching around the ancient cathedral in the center of  town continues down a side street lit by crystal chandeliers.   More markets stretch out through the city.   The lighting, a different design and color on every street, is spectacular.

We will spend time in Strasbourg, with its charming 'Petite France," visit Colmar (called the Venice of Alsace) and wander through some of the most colorful wine villages - with time for a little tasting.  We will also include a visit to the castle of Haut Koenigsbourg, perched high on its mountain.
