colorado’s Collegiate peaks weekend workshop
May 2-6, 2019
Please join Mindy Veissid and other likeminded photographers in an immersive shared experience weekend exploring the Collegiate Peaks of Colorado!
We will begin the workshop just outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado on May 2nd. We will stay at a Bed & Breakfast in Manitou Springs (we will be taking over the house!) which will allow us to easily explore this quaint town and some of the amazing surrounding landscape in the shadow of Pike’s Peak and the Garden of the Gods. There are great spots in Manitou Springs as well as Old Colorado City to eat, enjoy a drink at a local brewery or shop.
We will leave Manitou Springs mid-afternoon on May 3rd and head southwest toward Buena Vista, through Nathrop and Poncha Springs and the spectacular Colorado 14er Mount Princeton itself (14,204 ft above sea level). The historic town of Salida, Colorado will be approximately 20 minutes from our accommodation. We have rented 2 large cabins to accommodate our workshop participants. We will again be in sharing quarters during this stay. The advantage of this will be greater access to Mindy and her personalized instruction as well as the invaluable opportunity of sharing tips, stories and photos with all of your workshop mates.
Our stay will include passes to access all waters of the resort. This will allow us to soak before or after our daily adventures in the natural hot springs of the winding Chalk Creek. The resort has hot spring pools as well as pockets of naturally flowing hot springs within the Chalk Creek itself, affording a level of relaxation. There are hiking trails, grand vistas, old western structures along tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad, not to mention the ghost town of St Elmo. Each location will entice and peak different aspects of our creative photographic souls.
We want to state that the agenda for this workshop is fluid! In our fall workshop we experienced that where we think we will go or what we think we will be shooting is 100% up to the vibe of the workshop participants. We can change on a dime and look forward to finding unexpected treasures on a moments notice.
We have intentionally planned a shared experience workshop meaning you will be sharing rooms with other participants of the workshop. Please make sure you are ok sharing accommodations. We believe this will be a unique and fun way to share in this this adventure filled workshop.
This workshop is open to all photography levels and all digital cameras (including smartphone and point and shoot cameras).
Price: $1,450 per person. This includes workshop fee, rental van, 1 night in Manitou Springs, 2 nights at Mount Princeton Hot Springs. Deadline to register: March 25th.
Price does not include flight, meals or hotel on May 5th.
Maximum students: 10
Travel and Accommodations:
Plan to arrive in Colorado on or before the morning of May 2, 2019. You can fly into Denver, and if you do choose this destination, you will need to be ready to board a Van that will leave Denver International Airport at 12pm, May 2nd. Alternatively, you can fly into Colorado Springs and make your own way to the bed & breakfast (Carriage House in Manitou Springs) by 3 pm.
All travel in and out of Manitou Springs will be done as a group in a rented 15 passenger van.
We will leave the Mount Princeton area in the late afternoon/evening, May 5th and will travel back to Colorado Springs. After a group dinner Sunday evening, we will drop participants off in Colorado Springs at their own acquired accommodations and then return to Denver and drop participants off at their own acquired accommodations. You should plan on leaving Colorado on May 6th. We will not accommodate any one who arranges flights prior to Monday May 6th.
Photographically, plan on having spare memory cards and charged batteries. Less is more - no need to bring every lens.
The weather should be fine the first of May in Colorado. However, there is always a chance of snow in the Rockies. Pack for temperatures in the mid-50’s and plan for layers.
Remember, you will have a roommate for all 3 nights of the workshop.
If you are flying into Denver on or before May 2nd, arrive at Denver International Airport in time to board a van at noon on Thursday May 2nd (we will inform you where to meet the van closer to the workshop start date).
Please make departure plans for May 6th either out of Denver or Colorado Springs.
