destination workshop: Southwest France - the Basque Country and the Dordogne

October 5-13, 2018 (3 spots left)

It's the 'other south of France' - a region encompassing rocky coast, ancient pilgrimage sites, prehistoric cave art, medieval castles, the unique Basque culture and picture-perfect villages. Famous for its gastronomy as well, the region's markets abound in local products and local color.

We will begin in the Basque country, exploring the coastal towns of Bayonne, Biarritz, and St-Jean-de-Luz. We'll make an excursion from here into Spain, for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the town of San Sebastian, famous for Spanish gastronomy. We'll also venture into the Pyrenees to visit a few typical Basque villages, including the pilgrimage town of St-Jean-Pied-de-Port. From there we will head north to the Dordogne, home to Lascaux and other prehistoric sites. We'll see castles and the overhanging village of La Rocque Gageac, visit the lovely Renaissance town of Sarlat, the bastide town of Dome, and experience the spectacularly perched shrine and village of Rocamadour.

The workshop is open to all levels and all cameras (including Smartphones). Non photographers are also welcome.

The destination workshop to Portugal was an amazing experience. It was very well organized with guides to give you the history of each location. The organized meals were outstanding and hotels were lovely. Having Mindy there was the icing on the cake, she was on hand to discuss your work, help with questions about my camera and truly a pleasure to travel with. I met some amazing people who had the same interest I have in photography, some of who I know will be lifelong friends. I highly recommend going on one of these trips, I am already committed to another one!

This is the second year that I have joined Art of Intuitive Photography for a Destination Workshop. I have had a fantastic time. The workshops have been amazing. Great locations, people, and food. The excursions were impeccably chosen. The workshop was well run and well planned. We always had local transportation and guides. The atmosphere is relaxed. I have been on other European tours where you always seem on the go. You have downtime to either continue to explore the location that you are in, relax (aka nap time!!!) or have a critique with Mindy.

Mindy is a wonderful teacher. She really takes her time to teach her students. She answers any question and is very patient. I was having issues taking an outdoor nighttime picture that I really wanted. I told Mindy this on our way to dinner. Even though it was pouring rain outside after dinner Mindy asked me if I wanted a quick session with her. Like wow....It was cold and raining and we were both getting wet as she answered my questions. It only lasted 5 minutes but it is this thoughtfulness that meant the world to me and her students.

After going on these workshops I feel that my photography has improved. If you are looking for adventure, good company and improving your photography skills then I definitely recommend these workshops.
