destination workshop: Southwest France - the Basque Country and the Dordogne
October 5-13, 2018
It's the 'other south of France' - a region encompassing rocky coast, ancient pilgrimage sites, prehistoric cave art, medieval castles, the unique Basque culture and picture-perfect villages. Famous for its gastronomy as well, the region's markets abound in local products and local color.
We will begin in the Basque country, exploring the coastal towns of Bayonne and Biarritz, and St-Jean-de-Luz. We'll make an excursion from here into Spain, for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the town of San Sebastian, famous for Spanish gastronomy. We'll also venture into the Pyrenees to visit a few typical Basque villages, including the pilgrimage town of St-Jean-Pied-de-Port. From there we will head north to the Dordogne, home to Lascaux and other prehistoric sites. We'll see castles and the overhanging village of La Rocque Gageac, visit the lovely Renaissance town of Sarlat, the bastide town of Dome, and experience the spectacularly perched shrine and village of Rocamadour.
The workshop is open to all levels and all cameras (including Smartphones). Non photographers are also welcome.
