weekend destination workshop: maine

june 6-9, 2019 - sold out

There's a quality of life in Maine which is this singular and unique. I think. It's absolutely a world onto itself.”  Jamie Wyeth

Maine has a way of capturing and activating one’s inner artist. The beauty of our rocky coastline, thick pine forests, small working harbors and colorful sunrises have lured writers, photographers, painters and sculptors for generations.

Join Idyllworks of Maine to capture the beauty of both our urban and island landscapes with NY-based photographer and teacher, Mindy Veissid (http://www.mindyveissid.com/).

We will begin our long weekend in Portland, Maine’s largest city and a foodies delight, named by Bon Appetit the 2018 Restaurant City of the Year.  We will enjoy a seven-course chef-designed dinner at one of Portland’s best restaurants.  We will visit the eclectic Portland Museum of Art, home to a collection of European, American, and contemporary art, as well as an active rotation of exhibitions featuring local Maine artists and legendary works from around the world.

Following our day exploring Portland, we will head an hour north, to the island of Georgetown, known for its picturesque coastline and harbors, and for its history as a summer and year-round home of world–renowned artists.  We will spend two nights at Grey Havens Inn, a historic bed and breakfast built in 1904, which offers “today’s modern conveniences and charm.”  We will wake up to gentle yoga overlooking the Atlantic ocean, and enjoy an afternoon boat ride with Captain Ethan.  We will wine and dine at Grey Havens acclaimed restaurant.   Depending upon your interests and energy, a visit to Five Islands Lobster Pier or a walk along the beach at Reid State Park offer more exploration opportunities.

This is a weekend designed for adventure and relaxation; our group is limited in size and our schedule is flexible and suited to meet your needs.  With Maine as our backdrop, we aim to provide a weekend that will spark your creative spirit, activate your senses and rejuvenate your soul.

The destination workshop to Portugal was an amazing experience. It was very well organized with guides to give you the history of each location. The organized meals were outstanding and hotels were lovely. Having Mindy there was the icing on the cake, she was on hand to discuss your work, help with questions about my camera and truly a pleasure to travel with. I met some amazing people who had the same interest I have in photography, some of who I know will be lifelong friends. I highly recommend going on one of these trips, I am already committed to another one!

This is the second year that I have joined Art of Intuitive Photography for a Destination Workshop. I have had a fantastic time. The workshops have been amazing. Great locations, people, and food. The excursions were impeccably chosen. The workshop was well run and well planned. We always had local transportation and guides. The atmosphere is relaxed. I have been on other European tours where you always seem on the go. You have downtime to either continue to explore the location that you are in, relax (aka nap time!!!) or have a critique with Mindy.

Mindy is a wonderful teacher. She really takes her time to teach her students. She answers any question and is very patient. I was having issues taking an outdoor nighttime picture that I really wanted. I told Mindy this on our way to dinner. Even though it was pouring rain outside after dinner Mindy asked me if I wanted a quick session with her. Like wow....It was cold and raining and we were both getting wet as she answered my questions. It only lasted 5 minutes but it is this thoughtfulness that meant the world to me and her students.

After going on these workshops I feel that my photography has improved. If you are looking for adventure, good company and improving your photography skills then I definitely recommend these workshops.
