We are thrilled to welcome Kiwon Kim to our team. Kiwon has taken many of our classes and workshops and her focus is street photography. Kiwon was born in Seoul, Korea, raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, lived many years in Los Angeles, California, and now lives in New York City where she finds and captures unexpected visual surprises. She currently works in the corporate world, but always finds and makes time for her photography.

Kiwon will be teaching our walk-about classes and has already scheduled a class at the South Street Seaport in August.

Snow Day! Share Your Photos With Us

Please share your snow photos with us! You can tag them on our Instagram page with #intuitivephoto or follow @artofintuitivephotography or you can post to our Facebook group

Photo tips:

- Move, move, move! Get low on the ground, get in the middle of the street. Good photos come about when you allow yourself to shoot from different perspectives and angles. If you're home, go to every window and see what visually intrigues you.

- Make sure you are dressed properly and your gear is protected. It is difficult to brave the elements, but it makes it so much harder if your fingers are frozen or you are drenched with a chill to the bone. Take care of yourself so you can really enjoy the moment (and yes, that is possible!). Use a water proof bag or case to protect your camera. You can also wrap your camera in a plastic bag and secure it with rubber bands. Also bring an extra charged battery as the cold tends to drain it faster.

- Have fun! Really, you can. Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to go out in a storm and your mother told you not to? Now's your chance! Go out and let your inner child come out.

We look forward to see how you capture this snow storm!

Join us in Sicily, Italy!

Join Us In Sicily, Italy February 22 - March 2, 2017

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, has seen all the currents of history ebb and flow through her. The Greeks, the Arabs, the Normans – all left their mark on the culture and the country. Sicily overflows with ancient temples, tiny villages, historic cities and many centuries of architecture, a rich tapestry of images. Add the coastal villages and the silhouette of Mt Etna, the only active volcano in Europe, vineyards, mountains and deep blue sea, and you have a photographic destination with endless possibilities.

The workshop is open to all levels. Non photographers are also welcome.

AoIP Book - Coming Soon!

I'm thrilled to announce that my Art of Intuitive Photography book will be published this summer!

Please visit our
book page if you would like to know what it's about (there is an audio clip explaining it), or put yourself on the mailing list to receive notifications for preorders, book signings and photo workshops.

I wrote this book partly because so many of you, our students, asked to have it written, and also because I've seen first hand how amazing life (and photography) can be when you learn to listen and trust your intuition.

If you have any family or friends who could benefit from this approach, please share this email with them.

We're expanding to New England!

I'm thrilled to announce that we are expanding our classes to New England with the addition of Dan Lloyd to our Associate Teacher team!

I met Dan 5 years ago when he was visiting NYC and decided to take an Intuitive Photography class with us. Since that initial class he's come to NYC a few times a year to expand his knowledge and portfolio by attending our group classes and doing private lessons.

Dan lives in New Hampshire, and will be teaching our Digital Beginners and Intuitive Photography class in Manchester (largest city in NH), Concord (state capital) and scenic Portsmouth (just an hour from Boston).

If you would like to personally welcome him,
Dan will be teaching our Digital Beginner class on Sunday, February 14th here in NYC. All of the New Hampshire classes will be clearly marked on our calendar.

A Taste Of Cuba - Solo Show And Contest!

Two months ago I went on a trip to Cuba.

Do you know I love coffee? Cuba has some great tasting coffee. However, when I'm home in NYC, one of my favorite coffee places is Joe Coffee.

Last night I hung 9 of my photos from that Cuba trip at 'Joe Coffee' in Lincoln Center (68th St and Columbus Avenue). My show 'A Taste of Cuba' will be up for a few months.

For those that know me, I like engaging people. So like my last solo photography show, I'm holding a contest: choose any of one of the 9 images on display, and write a short story, poem, piece of music or song on the story that you see in the photo.

The winner of the piece that moved me the most will win that photo as an 8x10 signed print!

Below are the photos that are exhibited. If you can't view them personally,  please visit my website and click on the Cuba tab.

Email your story/poem/music/song to:

Please state which photo your are referencing to in your piece.

Submission deadling: April 30th, 2016

Happy viewing/writing!

In gratitude,

Video of Teacher Mindy Veissid Meditating with Deepak Chopra

For those who have asked about the video of Deepak guiding us into meditation, we just received the link from ABC News!

Deepak starts with explaining what meditation is as well as answers questions about how to teach meditation to children as well as how long and how often to do it. Having a hard time getting into the meditation practice? Deepak covers that as well!

Do you have a question you'd like to ask us about meditation or how we use it in photography? Do you have a story to share of how intuitive photography is your mediation? Share your thoughts with us!

You can write a comment, share or 'like' right below the video.

Teacher Mindy Veissid Meditates with Deepak Chopra on Good Morning America

Yesterday morning at 6:30am I was pinching myself in the middle of Times Square as I was about to walk into ABC Studios to meet and meditate with Deepak Chopra on the TV program Good Morning America. A more accurate, honest description: I was taking very deep breaths to calm myself as I was full of nervous excitement.

The segment we were on focused on meditation, and how important it is to incorporate it into our lives.

At 7:30am we went live with a live stream video on GMA’s facebook page where Deepak discussed meditation and guided us into a 15 minute zone of stillness. At first my heart was racing and thoughts like ‘OMG this is real!!’ and ‘he is right here, sitting 6 feet in front of me!!!’ occupied my mind. But his gentle soothing voice was right there in the room, not via my computer screen or my headphones. Within a few minutes my mind became more and more quiet and I could tap into the stillness within.

After the live stream was done I had the great honor of standing next to Deepak to have my photo taken with him. As my mind was calmed, I didn’t have one moment of nervous excitement – I just was. I was standing next to another human being who helped me get out of the crazy thinking phase to one of stillness and joy.

At 8:30 we were live on air, where some of the members of my group were able to ask Deepak questions about meditation. You can view that segment here.

I created my photography class ‘Intuitive Photography‘ in 2010, as this approach of photography was my primary source of meditation. When I’m with my camera, I forget everything that’s going on in my life and find myself in the present moment – seeing, feeling and sensing where I want to go and what I want to photograph. I turn my thinking mind off, allow the stillness to shine, and listen to my souls voice.

What I realized yesterday is that we can, and should, incorporate meditation into our daily lives. It doesn’t have to be sitting in a lotus position for 20 mins chanting OM. It can be done for just a few minutes as we’re brushing our teeth, riding the subway, sitting in traffic. All we need to do is chant something as simple as ‘I am’ or ‘In gratitude’ with every breath we take. Meditation physically changes us too (Deepak mentions this in the segment). I know I, for one, want to be in a still place when I teach, when I’m with friends and family, or when life just isn’t going the way I want it to.

I will still photograph intuitively, but I will incorporate these mini meditation sessions as often as possible throughout my day.

Yesterday morning at 9:15am I was pinching myself in the middle of Times Square as I just left ABC Studios after meeting and meditating with Deepak Chopra on the TV program Good Morning America. A more accurate, honest description: I was not taking very deep breaths to calm myself as I was full of nervous excitement. I was calm. I was stillness. I was joy. I was peace. I was in utter gratitude. I was.
