Monthly Charity Donations - Join Our MS Walk Team For April's Donation

Every month AoIP donates 10% of our income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that is in immediate need, or is a choice from our AoIP community.

In April, we will be doing something a little different - we will be participating in the MS Walk:NYC on Sunday, April 15th to raise money.

Join our Art of Intuitive Photography team and walk with us! Please invite your family and friends to join too (and bring your camera to document the walk)!

Please join now and start recruiting or, if it's in your heart, you can donate to our team.

February's charity will be announced shortly.

Monthly Charity Donations - January's Funds will go to Emma's Place

Every month AoIP donates 10% of our income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that is in immediate need, or is a choice from our AoIP community.

January's donation will go to Emma's Place. Our Associate Teacher, Michele Yacovello, had proposed this for consideration.

Emma's Place is a Staten Island not-for-profit organization of care giving professionals and volunteers committed to supporting grieving children and families year round. Its purpose is to facilitate healing through grief and loss education, including individual and group counseling, family talk and play, art therapies and special events.

Buy purchasing a class or gift certificate on our website in the month of January, you will be participating in making a difference at Emma's Place.

December's donation will go to Staten Island Giving Circle.

If you have a charity that's near and dear to our heart, please let me know so we can donate to it in future months.

In gratitude,

Monthly Charity Donations - December's Funds will go to Staten Island Giving Circle

Every month AoIP donates 10% of our income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that is in immediate need, or is a choice from our AoIP community.

December's donation will go to Staten Island Giving Circle. Our Associate Teacher, Michele Yacovello, had proposed this for consideration.

Here are Michele's words about SIGC:

The Staten Island Giving Circle is near and dear to my heart. I have been involved for 8 years and became president 2 years ago.

We are a 100% volunteer based grass roots organization doing as much locally as we possibly can.

Our most popular is the kids enrichment program in which we raise money for school trips, kids coat closets and teachers closets. These take place at title 1 schools in lower income neighborhoods.

School trips are self explanatory, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, socks and often boots are provided as needed to schools providing a kids coat closet in schools as needed.

For teachers closets, teachers are nominated and receive a wish list of the  most needed items for their particular classroom.

This holiday season we are hosting a holiday party for 50 children and we are ‘adopting’ another 65 from a local family shelter. Each child will receive several brand new gifts.

Please check out our website for a full listing of the various projects. You can also find us on Facebook.

Buy purchasing a class or gift certificate on our website in the month of December, you will be participating in making a difference at SIGC.

November's donation will be going to Main Springs (the Janada L. Batechlor Foundation for Children) in East Africa.

If you have a suggestion of where to donate for the month of January, please let us know.

Monthly Charity Donations - November's Funds will go to Main Springs Foundation

Every month AoIP donates 10% of our income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that is in immediate need, or is a choice from our AoIP community.

November's donation will go to Main Springs (the Janada L. Batechlor Foundation for Childrein) in East Africa. Our student, Margaret Paul had proposed this foundation for consideration.

Here are Margarets words about the foundation:

An organization that I am deeply connected to is Main Springs, the Janada L. Batchelor Foundation for Children (JBFC). JBFC is a federally recognized 501c3 dedicated to alleviating extreme rural poverty in East Africa by providing compassionate, lasting, innovative change via safe refuge, education, access to healthcare, and economic sustainability through agriculture.

This organization, named after my mother and headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was founded in 2006 by my nephew, Chris Gates. Since its founding, I have watched the organization grow from a four-acre campus on the shores of Lake Victoria in the small village of Kitongo in Tanzania, to what is now a 70-acre campus. This JBFC campus is home to 56 vulnerable girls, educates over 400 boys and girls through their top-ranked primary and secondary schools, and provides access to healthcare to 400 local families. The flagship campus not only employs around 80 local East African staff, but also works hard to be as self-sustaining as possible, using their 35-acre permaculture farm to harvest around one ton of produce a month to feed the school children, residential girls, and staff.

The holistic model of JBFC has been so successful that they were asked by the Tanzanian government to replicate their campus in a second community in Tanzania, and are in fact, breaking ground later this year. JBFC is not only important to me in the sense that it keeps my mother’s legacy alive, but it is important because it is impacting the lives of thousands and creating brighter tomorrows for an entire community.

I recently visited the campus this past summer, after 7 years of not seeing the growth for myself, and I was truly blown away by the incredible progress this whole organization has made. I, of course, am supportive of my nephew and love what he’s doing, but this organization has become so much more than he, my mother, or our family - it is a movement that is changing lives and an entire community. And, after visiting and seeing all of the projects that JBFC supports, I am more passionate than ever to help it grow and succeed.

Buy purchasing a class or gift certificate on our website in the month of November, you will be participating in making a difference for Main Springs.

Octobers's donation will be going to charity: water.

Monthly Charity Donations

As many of you know, we at AoIP believe in fostering a community of likeminded souls interested in sharing ones love for photography but also making this world a better place by living an authentic life and sharing that with others.

On September 4th Art of Intuitive Photography will be 7 years old and we are exited to add a new component: every month AoIP will be giving 10% of our net income from our website sales to a charity/fundraiser that means something to our AoIP community.

All four of us teachers will choose a charity we feel strongly about, and we ask that you, too, let us know which charity affects your heart so we can donate to it for one month. They can include local charities, or ones in any part of the world. Please email us at with your request and why that charity means something to you. We will include your story in our monthly blog post about why you chose that charity.

In addition to highlighting a charity per month, we will also be organizing an AoIP Team to participate in some NYC walks, for ex. AIDS, MS, Breast Cancer, etc.

You will also see a green donate button on our site. In addition to the amount AoIP will be donating, you can also help by sharing the button with your friends/family so they can participate and add additional funds.

Our first charity has been chosen by me, and it  is charity: water.  Click here to start donating to it today. We will announce the upcoming months charity as requests come in from you.

In gratitude,

Kiwon was born in Seoul, Korea, raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, lived many years in Los Angeles, California, and now lives in New York City where she finds and captures unexpected visual surprises. She currently works in the corporate world, but always finds and makes time for her photography.

Kiwon will be teaching our walk-about classes and has already scheduled a class at the South Street Seaport in August.

Snow Day! Share Your Photos With Us

Please share your snow photos with us! You can tag them on our Instagram page with #intuitivephoto or follow @artofintuitivephotography or you can post to our Facebook group

Photo tips:

- Move, move, move! Get low on the ground, get in the middle of the street. Good photos come about when you allow yourself to shoot from different perspectives and angles. If you're home, go to every window and see what visually intrigues you.

- Make sure you are dressed properly and your gear is protected. It is difficult to brave the elements, but it makes it so much harder if your fingers are frozen or you are drenched with a chill to the bone. Take care of yourself so you can really enjoy the moment (and yes, that is possible!). Use a water proof bag or case to protect your camera. You can also wrap your camera in a plastic bag and secure it with rubber bands. Also bring an extra charged battery as the cold tends to drain it faster.

- Have fun! Really, you can. Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to go out in a storm and your mother told you not to? Now's your chance! Go out and let your inner child come out.

We look forward to see how you capture this snow storm!

Join us in Sicily, Italy!

Join Us In Sicily, Italy February 22 - March 2, 2017

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, has seen all the currents of history ebb and flow through her. The Greeks, the Arabs, the Normans – all left their mark on the culture and the country. Sicily overflows with ancient temples, tiny villages, historic cities and many centuries of architecture, a rich tapestry of images. Add the coastal villages and the silhouette of Mt Etna, the only active volcano in Europe, vineyards, mountains and deep blue sea, and you have a photographic destination with endless possibilities.

The workshop is open to all levels. Non photographers are also welcome.

AoIP Book - Coming Soon!

I'm thrilled to announce that my Art of Intuitive Photography book will be published this summer!

Please visit our
book page if you would like to know what it's about (there is an audio clip explaining it), or put yourself on the mailing list to receive notifications for preorders, book signings and photo workshops.

I wrote this book partly because so many of you, our students, asked to have it written, and also because I've seen first hand how amazing life (and photography) can be when you learn to listen and trust your intuition.

If you have any family or friends who could benefit from this approach, please share this email with them.

In gratitude,
