A Photography Weekend In Boston

October 2 - 4th, 2026

"A moment's insight is sometimes worth a life's experience.”

– Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr

Join us for a long-weekend photography skillcation in one of America's most walkable and storied cities. Led by lead photography instructor Mindy Véissid, this weekend is designed to help you slow down, see Boston with fresh eyes, and strengthen your photography - whether you're visiting for the first time or you've called the city home for years.

As we wander Boston's historic neighborhoods, gardens, riverfront, and arts district, you'll come away with photographs that tell the story of your weekend - and a way of seeing that stays with you long after you've gone home.

This is not a traditional sightseeing tour. Mindy will offer creative prompts, technical support when needed, and one-on-one guidance as we photograph throughout the weekend.

Elevate Your Photography

This weekend is your chance to explore your photographic eye amidst Boston's blend of history, beauty, and everyday life. Each morning begins with a short photography lesson - we'll explore light and composition on the first day, and the art of intuitive seeing on the second - which you'll practice throughout the day. Technical assistance will be given to those who need it.

Who This Is For

You do not need to know manual mode or have any formal photography training to join. This weekend is designed to meet you where you are, whether you’re using a camera, smartphone, or simply want to experience Boston in a more creative and mindful way.

Itinerary:

Friday, Oct 2 - Welcome Dinner (6:30pm): We'll gather in the evening for a relaxed welcome dinner - a chance to meet the group and settle into the weekend before we pick up our cameras.

Saturday, Oct 3 - Beacon Hill, the Public Garden & the Charles (9:00am - 4:00pm): We'll start the morning with a short lesson on light and composition, then head out to put it into practice. We'll begin at the Massachusetts State House, with its gleaming gold dome above Boston Common, then wander down into Beacon Hill - one of the most photogenic neighborhoods in the country - through Louisburg Square, the famous Acorn Street, the gas lamps, and the brick row houses. After a break for lunch together, we'll make our way through the Public Garden, with its willows, swan boats, and the little footbridge over the lagoon, and along the Charles River Esplanade, where the city opens up to water and sky.

Sunday, Oct 4 - The North End & the SoWa Arts District (9:00am - 3:00pm): We'll begin with a morning lesson on intuitive seeing - learning to trust what draws your eye - then set out into the North End, Boston's oldest neighborhood, as it quietly comes to life - narrow lanes, old churches, and the small, human moments that make the most memorable photographs. Late morning, we'll head to SoWa, Boston's creative heart, where galleries, working artists, and a lively open-air market come alive on Sundays. We'll spend time among the art and the market, then close the weekend together by mid-afternoon.

Optional - Monday, Oct 5 - Cambridge (9:00am - 2:00pm): For those who aren't quite ready to leave, we'll cross the river to Cambridge for a relaxed final morning - Harvard Square and Harvard Yard, with their brick, ivy, and bookshops, and down to the Charles River, where the rowers glide past and the Boston skyline rises across the water. We'll pause for lunch along the way and wrap by early afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a photography skillcation?

It's part vacation, part hands-on photography experience. Instead of simply visiting a place, you'll learn to see and photograph it more deeply. This one is a long weekend, in a small group, for curious travelers and locals of all levels.

Do I need a professional camera?

No. This skillcation is smartphone-friendly. You're welcome to bring your phone, a point-and-shoot, or a DSLR or mirrorless camera if you prefer.

Where should we stay?

You're free to choose your own lodging, which means you can pick what suits you best - a hotel, a rental, or staying with friends in the city. We'll share our central meeting spots ahead of time so you can choose somewhere convenient. Staying in or near downtown, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, or the South End will put you close to where we'll be each day. Early October is a popular time in New England, so we suggest booking early.

What should I bring?

Bring your camera or smartphone, comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, water, and anything you like to use when photographing. If you use a camera, bring extra batteries and memory cards.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is a nonrefundable deposit of $200 to hold your spot.

The full balance is due by September 1st, 2026. If you are not paid in full by then, we reserve the right to offer your spot to our waiting list or the public, and to retain your deposit.

Cancellation: In the event you need to cancel your trip after your full balance is paid, you will not be refunded. You are welcome to sell or give your ticket to another person. In the event that we have a waiting list we will try to fill your spot with a person from that list.

In the case of acts of God, war, disaster, pandemic, border closure or unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to retain your fees and reschedule or make any necessary changes to the trip.

Can I reach out to you with more questions?
