My Book Art of Intuitive Photography Turns Ten
This month, my book Art of Intuitive Photography: Find Your True Self Through Your Own Lens turned ten years old. I still remember holding it in my hands for the very first time.
Honestly, for a long time I didn't think I had any business writing it. I'm self-taught - no photography degree, no MFA - and the doubt was loud. But I'd stumbled onto something that kept changing people, and I couldn't keep quiet about it.
The idea is simple: photography isn't about the fanciest camera or the perfect settings. It's about slowing down, trusting your eye, and enjoying the moment instead of just capturing it.
I wrote it for anyone who has ever thought "I'm not the creative one." I've watched so many people who said exactly that pick up a camera, relax, and start seeing the world - and themselves - a little differently. Ten years later, that's still the thing I care about.
Here's one of my favorite little lessons from inside the book:
There's a difference between looking, observing, and seeing. Looking notices a person walking toward you. Observing notices they're wearing a black coat and boots. Seeing notices the color of their eyes, the earrings they chose that morning. Next time you have your camera or phone out, try to really see - you'll be amazed what's been there all along.
I designed the cover myself, which was a fun part of the process (you can view it at the top of this post).
Thank you to everyone who has read it, learned from it, or taken more meaningful photos because of it. It truly means the world to me.
